MINUTE TO WIN IT – GAMES and HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES

This week it is 

HEALTHY CHOICES WEEK

at our school.

Our Integrated Studies topics Healthy Living, Healthy People and Commonwealth Games have allowed us participate in many new and exciting activities.

As you can see from previous posts we have already completed many interesting activities on healthy eating, including dental and oral hygiene.

Today was no exception!

We had a fun afternoon playing five different “MINUTE TO WIN IT” games. We learnt that although some of the games looked easy, it wasn’t until we really tried them, that we discovered they were really quite difficult, and almost impossible! We also learnt about group co-operative skills, and that just playing games can help our fitness whilst having fun at the same time!

The rotation activities included, rolling marbles down a table, rolling a ping pong ball down a tape measure into a glass, maintaining a feather in the air without touching it, bouncing pencils into a cup and blowing a deck of cards off the top of a glass!

BENEFITS OF HEALTHY EATING – A WELL BALANCED PLATE

As part of our healthy eating topic, we designed some plates for art.

We piled them full of proteins, carbohydrates, vegetables and salads.

We used crepe paper to design the food on our plates.

We enjoyed completing this art activity.

When we finished, we wrote our poetry, to reflect what we had learnt!

Dental Health and Oral Hygiene

Today, the 5/6’s had a special talk

from two visitors from the Dental Health Clinic.

This incursion was part of our Integrated Studies topic,

Healthy Living, Healthy People.

We learnt so much today and we know

we have to look after our teeth because we want them to last!

We were also very happy to each receive a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Coach Approach at our School

Another busy and exciting day at our school for the 5/6 students.

Today we took part in four fun activities

which took up all of the morning.

We were divided into four groups and

we rotated between each activity every half hour.

The activities included –

HIP HOP, ULTIMATE FRISBEE, JUGGLING, TAEKWONDO

Everyone had a wonderful time and it gave us

the opportunity of trying out some new sports.

Goal Setting

This Week we focused on what our goals for Semester two will be.

We also had to think about what our goals in Semester One were.

Did we reach our goals? Did we succeed?

What else did we have to work on?

We had to choose one behavioural goal, and one academic goal.

For each goal, we had to write the steps we would take to achieve each goal.

We used the S.M.A.R.T. chart.

Our goals had to be SPECIFIC,  MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, RELEVANT and TIME-BASED.

It is great to be able to set our own goals and write them down, because in this way, we can actually see what we are trying to achieve. Also, our parents and teacher can see what we want to achieve, and they can help us if we forget sometimes.

 

Healthy Food Choices

Our first week of Term 3 has been a busy one.

We have spent a lot of time discussing healthy food choices.
