Art Show – 2016

Congratulations everyone on a job well done!

ART SHOW DISPLAY SUPER HEROES & CERAMIC ROSES

Your artwork was amazing and was well received

by all the visitors to the show.

Congratulations to Kenly and Kris for being the class winners.

Congratulations to Caitlin and Alexander for your highly commended awards.

You should all be feeling very proud of yourselves for a job well done.

Below is a video of the final pieces of art which you completed.

Art Show – Iris Folding

We recently held our Art Show for 2016.

One of our pieces of art was Iris Folding.

This was quite complicated because it involved carefully folding strips of paper.

Then we had to sticky tape each strip around our template.

Watch the video below to see our completed works of art.

ART SHOW – SUPER HEROES

Our 3D art pieces for the 2016 art show were three ceramic masks.

The theme of these masks was Super Heroes.

We used our imagination and created some well known super heroes,

as well as some not so well known.

Some of us even created our very own super heroes.

Once finished we mounted them on wooden blocks and dowel.

We hope you enjoy watching our video.

Figurative Language

What is Figurative Language?

Have a look at the different types of figurative language and how they are used in sentences:

a simile, uses “like” or “as” to make a comparison.

The ball streaked across the field like a meteor.

an idiom, is a phrase that means what it says, even if it doesn’t make sense.

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.  OR  Get off your high horse.

a hyperbole is an exaggeration

The extra point kick missed by a mile.

an alliteration is the repetition of a sound in a sentence or series of sentences.

Samantha soared down the street on her sleek skateboard.

a metaphor suggests that two different things are the same thing.

Life is a curly slide full of twists and turns.

a personification makes a non-human thing seem human.

The verb in the sentence shows the human quality.

The tree invited us to come and play.

an onomatopoeia is a word that sounds like the noise or action it is describing.

The jet zoomed across the sky.

Did you realize how often figurative language is used in many popular films?

Watch the videos below and see how many types of figurative language you can identify.

We acknowledge and thank all YouTube video authors for their fantastic presentations of figurative language.

St. Francis of Assisi

stfrancis21-1024x489

This week we celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

On Friday we will be able to bring our pets to school for a special blessing.

St. Francis loved animals and always had a special place in his heart for them.

We can all learn so much from the life of St. Francis of Assisi.

Below is a short PowerPoint about the life of St. Francis.

St. Francis’ Peace Prayer is very special one.

It teaches us so much about how to treat other people who come into our lives.

It is a prayer of peace and for peace in our world.
