Visible Learning and Growth Mindset

VISIBLE LEARNING AND GROWTH MINDSET

In this first week of school for 2017,

we have been concentrating on what it means to be

a visible learner.

We have also discussed growth mindset

and how we can all change from

a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

Watch the videos below to give you an idea about what a fixed and growth mindset actually mean.

What are some of the steps you can take to change your thinking?

What are some things you can do to change your thinking

and therefore change your life and your ability to succeed?

Read the fixed and growth mindset words in the chart below.

Do you recognize any comments that you have ever made?

Think about how you can change.

In class this week we also discussed what we can do to take control

of our actions and behaviors both in and out of the classroom.

We understand that there are some things that are out of our control.

Yet there are also some things that each of us can control.

Think about what YOU are going to do to change your mindset

and about how YOU can be in control.

How will you respond when confronted with difficult tasks?

What will you say? How will you act? What will you do? What will you think?

What makes a visible learner?

This term we have spent some time discussing and thinking

about what makes a visible learner.

We discussed the question in small groups,

then we all contributed to coming up with some visible learning behaviors.

We then each designed our own slide to show what being a

visible learner and thinker means to us.

Below is a presentation of our work and thoughts.

We Are All Born Free – Our Interpretation

Continuing our study of justice and equality, we read the book  We are All Born Free.

Each of us chose one of the charters from the Declaration of Human Rights.

The following is our interpretation of each of the declarations.

We chose illustrations to assist us to the convey our message.

We hope you enjoy reading our version.

What do you think?

Did you learn anything new about people’s rights?

Have some of your ideas changed since studying this unit?

Write back and tell me what you think.

I thought I would also add this YouTube video for you to consider.

How can one random act of kindness help so many people?

How does the boomerang of kindness work?

We Are All Born Free – Amnesty International

Our Religious Education Unit at the moment is Mission Possible.

It deals with looking at issues of justice and injustice, not only in the time of Jesus,

but also in our world today.

We began our unit by looking at the Declaration of Human Rights.

We read the book

We are all born free.

We acknowledge and thank Amnesty International for the following video.

Take a closer look at the charter of Human Rights.

Here is an easier way to understand the Charter:

The Piano – Animation by Aidan Gibbons, Music by Yann Tiersen

The Piano – Amazing Animation by Aidan Gibbons, Music by Yann Tiersen

We acknowledge and thank Aidan Gibbons and Yann Tiersen for this wonderful and amazing animation.

As part of our RE unit this term on New Beginnings,

we watched the above animation called the Piano.

It fitted in well with our discussion of memories, and losing people we love.

As part of Literacy, and RE, we wrote narratives based on the animation.

We enjoyed writing our short stories, and we hope you enjoy reading some of the finished pieces.

Please feel free to leave a comment.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL OUR MUMS!

We take this opportunity to wish all our mum’s a very happy Mother’s Day.

We hope you have a chance to sit down and relax on your special day.

Allow the children to pamper you and make you feel extra special.

Why not sit quietly and enjoy the video which we have included above.

We hope you enjoy your day, and that you treasure

the beautiful hand-crafted cards which the children made for you.

Enjoy!download

What did you do for your mum on mother’s day?

Did you make her feel special? Did you tell her you love her?

Did you say ‘thank you’ for everything that she does for you?

Write back and let me know if your mum enjoyed her day.

Beach Day

Last Friday we went on a whole school excursion to the beach.

This was so exciting for many of our students.

Many activities were organized for us.

These included sand sculpting, beach cricket, beach volleyball, parachutes,

free play and meet the lifesaver.

It was a very relaxing day,

and even though we couldn’t go swimming,

it was wonderful to paddle in the water and have fun with our friends.

The bus trip was different because we took our Prep buddies,

and this gave us the opportunity of spending time with them as well.

Below are some pictures of our fun day.

Write back and tell me what you thought of our Beach Day.

What was the best activity? What did you enjoy the most?

Internet Safety – Celebrating Internet Safety Day 2015

This week saw our whole school take part in the global

Internet Safety Day for 2015.

We watched the videos below

and also discussed what to do when on the Internet,

so that we stay safe.

We learnt that it is important to act responsibly

when we are on the Internet, especially if we are on any social media sites.

Part of our activities at school

included designing a poster about Internet Safety.

The best poster in each class will be chosen and prizes will be given.

So remember, always stay safe on the Internet and follow safe practices!

We also listened to this song and joined in.

See if you can also join in.

What did you learn from our Internet Safety day?

What do you do to stay safe on the Internet?

What advice would you give someone about staying safe on the Internet?

We would love to hear from you.

Silent Night & Social Network Christmas

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and contributions throughout 2014.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

To the Year 6’s leaving our school,

we wish you the very best as you begin your new journey.

We wish you all a safe and holy Christmas.

God Bless.

In beautiful harmony, Kelly Clarkson was joined onstage by Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire for a stunning rendition of “Silent Night”. Their voices blend together beautifully with this beloved Christmas classic written in 1818 reminding us what Christmas is all about.

We acknowledge YouTube for the use of this video.

Advent and Christmas Miracles

At the moment we are in the season of Advent.

How are you preparing for Christmas?

Watch the series of videos in the following presentation.

Why is Christmas all about the spirit of giving?

How have people’s lives been changed with random acts of kindness?

Also think about the power of words.

How did the blind man’s life change just with one random act of kindness?

This advent season, ask yourself, what am I doing to prepare?

What am I doing to help others?
