Visible Learning and Growth Mindset

VISIBLE LEARNING AND GROWTH MINDSET

In this first week of school for 2017,

we have been concentrating on what it means to be

a visible learner.

We have also discussed growth mindset

and how we can all change from

a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

Watch the videos below to give you an idea about what a fixed and growth mindset actually mean.

What are some of the steps you can take to change your thinking?

What are some things you can do to change your thinking

and therefore change your life and your ability to succeed?

Read the fixed and growth mindset words in the chart below.

Do you recognize any comments that you have ever made?

Think about how you can change.

In class this week we also discussed what we can do to take control

of our actions and behaviors both in and out of the classroom.

We understand that there are some things that are out of our control.

Yet there are also some things that each of us can control.

Think about what YOU are going to do to change your mindset

and about how YOU can be in control.

How will you respond when confronted with difficult tasks?

What will you say? How will you act? What will you do? What will you think?

We Are All Born Free – Amnesty International

Our Religious Education Unit at the moment is Mission Possible.

It deals with looking at issues of justice and injustice, not only in the time of Jesus,

but also in our world today.

We began our unit by looking at the Declaration of Human Rights.

We read the book

We are all born free.

We acknowledge and thank Amnesty International for the following video.

Take a closer look at the charter of Human Rights.

Here is an easier way to understand the Charter:

The Piano – Animation by Aidan Gibbons, Music by Yann Tiersen

The Piano – Amazing Animation by Aidan Gibbons, Music by Yann Tiersen

We acknowledge and thank Aidan Gibbons and Yann Tiersen for this wonderful and amazing animation.

As part of our RE unit this term on New Beginnings,

we watched the above animation called the Piano.

It fitted in well with our discussion of memories, and losing people we love.

As part of Literacy, and RE, we wrote narratives based on the animation.

We enjoyed writing our short stories, and we hope you enjoy reading some of the finished pieces.

Please feel free to leave a comment.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL OUR MUMS!

We take this opportunity to wish all our mum’s a very happy Mother’s Day.

We hope you have a chance to sit down and relax on your special day.

Allow the children to pamper you and make you feel extra special.

Why not sit quietly and enjoy the video which we have included above.

We hope you enjoy your day, and that you treasure

the beautiful hand-crafted cards which the children made for you.

Enjoy!download

What did you do for your mum on mother’s day?

Did you make her feel special? Did you tell her you love her?

Did you say ‘thank you’ for everything that she does for you?

Write back and let me know if your mum enjoyed her day.

Beach Day

Last Friday we went on a whole school excursion to the beach.

This was so exciting for many of our students.

Many activities were organized for us.

These included sand sculpting, beach cricket, beach volleyball, parachutes,

free play and meet the lifesaver.

It was a very relaxing day,

and even though we couldn’t go swimming,

it was wonderful to paddle in the water and have fun with our friends.

The bus trip was different because we took our Prep buddies,

and this gave us the opportunity of spending time with them as well.

Below are some pictures of our fun day.

Write back and tell me what you thought of our Beach Day.

What was the best activity? What did you enjoy the most?

Bridge’s Story – A Teamwork Aniboom Animation by Tony Hoang

We thank Tony Hoang for this interesting video.

Since we will be having “elections” in our room soon,

I thought I would include this short video clip on teamwork.

Maybe consider what some of the messages are in this video.

What message do you take away with you?

Can you think of any situations you have found yourself in

where teamwork makes things easier?

POLAR OPPOSITES by Karl Tyson

Our thanks to Karl Tyson for this very cute video “Polar Opposites”.

The characters have so much personality, and they certainly teach us a lesson.

Practice and patience certainly pay off, as does lending a helping hand.

What did you think about these cute characters?

How would you behave in a similar situation?

Would you do something special for a friend who is feeling down,

without expecting thanks?
